CODA Film: A Brief Summary
Here is a brief summary of the CODA film that might interest you and it might even make you watch CODA right now.
CODA is a beautiful story of Ruby Rossi (Emilia Jones), a 17-year-old girl, who lives in Massachusetts and is the only hearing member of her deaf family. She acts as the interpreter for her parents (Marlee Matlin and Troy Kotsur) and her brother (Daniel Durant). She is the only person in the family which helps them communicate with the hearing world and also helps her family in fishing boats before school. Ruby has a passion for singing and she wanted to pursue her career as a singer but her responsibilities towards family and the challenges she faces due to her family’s deafness create obstacles for her.
While struggling with family responsibilities and her passion for singing, she is encouraged by her music teacher (Eugenio Derbez) to audition for a popular and prestigious music school, which could be a way to pursue her career in singing. Ruby also finds Miles in the school choir where she started to build feelings for him. However, the decision of chasing singing career raises conflicting emotions within Ruby as she struggles to keep up with the family and pursue her passion for singing. CODA films go deeper into self-discovery, and the power of communication beyond language.
